If you are a fan of Tejano music, you may have heard of Marisa Rose Mejia, a young singer who has been making waves in the genre. The 16-year-old singer recently received the honor of being named Outstanding Performer at the 2023 UIL Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest (TSSEC) held in Austin.
TSSEC is a prestigious event that showcases the best musical talent from high schools across Texas. Out of the countless students who participated in the regional UIL music contests, and the thousands of musicians who graced the stage at TSSEC, the East Central ISD student’s performance stood out among the top 2-3% of solo performances.
This achievement is a testament to Mejia’s exceptional talent, dedication, and hard work. She started singing at the age of four and has been performing in various venues and events ever since. The San Antonio singer is inspired by her Tejano roots, and her music reflects her passion for her culture and heritage.
Mejia’s style is a blend of traditional Tejano music with modern influences, such as pop, rock, and R&B. She sings in both English and Spanish, and her songs cover topics such as love, family, and empowerment. She released her debut single, “Vueltas Y Vueltas,” in 2017.
Her goal is to share her music with the world and to inspire other young people to pursue their dreams. She is grateful for the support of her family, friends, fans, and mentors. She hopes to continue growing as an artist and to keep representing Tejano music with pride and excellence. She is a rising star and we can’t wait to see what she does next!
