
SAN ANTONIO, TX — Longtime Tejano radio personality Diana Castillo, known as “Lady Di” to listeners and “The First Lady of Tejano Radio,” passed away on June 22, 2023. She was 68 years old.
The Plainview, Texas native had a very successful career in radio and the music industry, paving the way for other female broadcasters in Tejano music.
Castillo began her career at KKYN in her hometown of Plainview. Her smooth, sultry voice was also heard at KTLK in Lubbock, where she rose to Program Director. She joined KXTN in San Antonio for several years and was a pivotal part in making it the top-rated station in the market.
According to her obituary, “Lady Di” was the image of a professional, an amazing mentor to many. She was a very extraordinary individual with amazing talent and simplified the way for many other female broadcasters’ successes. She instrumental in the rise of Selena and served as a reporter in the movie about the late bicultural icon.
“Lady Di was an amazing mentor to me as a young woman,” said Fox 29 San Antonio anchor/reporter Yami Virgin in a social media post, who worked along side Castillo at KXTN. “It was such a great ride and with people like Lady Di we opened the way for future female DJs in a male dominated world.”
A public memorial service is planned for Castillo at Castillo Funeral Home, 520 N. Gen. McMullen in San Antonio, Texas, on July 8, 2023, from 1 – 5 p.m.
