Monica Saldivar teamed with her mentor and Tejano ROOTS Hall of Famer Shelly Lares for a duet of “No Me Olvides,” a song originally recorded by “Little Miss Dynamite” in 1998.
“I was so fortunate to be able to not only rerecord one of my all-time favorite Shelly Lares songs but to be able to be in the studio with one of my mentors and have her produce it and sing it along with me meant the world to me,” Saldivar shared via social media. “Throughout the past few years, I have had the awesome opportunity to have been invited to sing ‘No Me Olvides’ with Shelly numerous times including being one of her special guests at Vegas Tejano Takeover during her Vegas Farewell show which was also included on her very first live album and then again during Shelly’s Last Bow tribute concert. So to say this song is super important to me is an understatement. So here it is!”
Lares commented, “Omg Monica! This song and collab means alot to me too. It has been my honor to be here for you and to see you succeeding in what you love! To hear you sing my song is something I will never be able to put into words. I hope everyone loves it as much as you and I do!! Love you!”
“No Me Olvides” is part of Saldivar’s second full-length album, Soy Mas Fuerte (Deluxe), released last year by the award-winning singer. The disc is the follow-up to the Soy Mas Fuerte EP, released in June 2021, and her self-titled debut album, released in 2019 that earned her Top New Female Artist at the My Tejano Awards in that year and Best New Female Artist of the Year at the 40th Tejano Music Awards in 2020.
