Jay Perez reimagined a cumbia classic for his highly-anticipated new single, “La Rajita De Canela,” the second release from the Latin Grammy nominee’s upcoming new album El Patron.
“La Rajita De Canela” was originally recorded and made famous by Mike Laure in 1965. Jay’s new version was produced by Rolando Revilla, Jr., and Jay Perez band members, Jonathan McGraw and Fabian Hernandez. Executive Producers are The Martinez Brothers (Freddie Martinez Jr., John Martinez, and Marc Martinez). “La Rajita De Canela” features a lively Tejano cumbia beat with heavy use of percussion, a live brass section, instrumental lead breaks, and a catchy sing-along chorus. Once again, Jay Perez and The Band deliver amazing musicianship and incredible vocals. This song will instantly have fans running to the dance floor.

“La Rajita De Canela” will impact Tejano and Regional Mexican radio today and will be available on all digital music platforms beginning Friday, March 17. The track is the follow-up single to the Tejano superstar’s recent chart-topping smash, “Necesito Odiarte”. It’s also the second single from Jay’s forthcoming album El Patron, which is scheduled for release in April of 2023.
“The Voice” mentioned last year in a video posted to his YouTube channel, that this will be his best album in 30 years since the release of his debut solo album.
“This album means everything to me because it is by far, and everything that I’ve heard so far, it took me back to 1993 when I recorded the Te Llevo En Mi album,” he said. “This by far is my best album in 30 years, that I promise you.”
