Laredo, Texas native Cindy Ramos is balancing being a wife, teacher, and musician. She is a third-grade teacher and excitedly states she is happy to be back in the classroom after having a year and a half away due to the pandemic.
The singer’s summer was spent recording and performances all over Texas. She is currently learning to play the accordion and appreciates everyone’s patience.
Inspired to sing Tejano at the young age of 15, Cindy’s uncle, Gilberto Rodriguez, educated her on background vocals and writing songs. Another mentor was her father, he would play Conjunto at family BBQs, songs from Tony De La Rosa, Ruben Vela, etc. Her love for Conjunto music grew with this influence and now she truly appreciates it.

Ramos tells Tejano Nation her producer Lorenzo “Papo” Banda, a Latin Grammy winner, wanted to try different genres. “When we were planning the second album is when he said, ‘I think we should go with Conjunto, it fits you better,” she said. “I was so happy about it because that’s what I wanted initially.”

The goal for Ramos is to get more females in the genre and was honored when she met Linda Escobar, the Queen of Conjunto. Another goal is to stay positive and tune out negativity. “I have gotten pretty bad comments especially because I’m doing Conjunto but I really don’t let it get to me,” she said.
Ramos has a beautiful new single, written by Mary Jane Segura and Ignacio Puente, titled “Que Mas Quieres De Mi.” The song was initially Conjunto but once Cindy listened to it, it’s such a romantic song and she believed it should be a Tejano song. “Que Mas Quieres De Mi” is available on all digital platforms.
The question was asked to Cindy, “What really gets you, hits your heart?” She explained, “I come across so many songs, especially recently is when I realized how beautiful it is to write music. I write a lot of my songs.”
All of us at Tejano Nation would like to say Happy Birthday to Cindy Ramos on September 17. God bless you with many more celebrations.
