Tejano Music Awards Fan Fair 2020 will go on as planned amid coronavirus concerns in San Antonio

Organizers of the annual four-day event in San Antonio say it will go on as planned.

Tejano Music Awards Fan Fair 2020 is slated to go on as planned at historic Market Square in downtown San Antonio from March 12-15.

The event approaches just two weeks after an evacuee from Wuhan, China was released from quarantine at San Antonio’s Lackland AFB before testing positive for the coronavirus and had visited a hotel and local mall for two hours.

The Texas Talent Musicians Association (TTMA), organizers of the annual TMA Fan Fair said the annual event will go on as planned.

“The Fan Fair is on,” said Frank Salazar, TTMA board Vice President. “We’ve been keeping tabs with the city of San Antonio, the health officials, we’ve been observing the South By Southwest is doing and the Fiesta Flambeau people and everybody is still a go. Big events going on in San Antonio.”

The four-day event in San Antonio is visited by over 100,000 Tejano music fans each year and over 200 bands are scheduled to perform from across the United States and Mexico.

“Definitely we’re on,” added Salazar. “Nobody is canceling anything anywhere in San Antonio that I know of, not even Austin. We’re still monitoring and we should be okay, it’s a go.”

Health officials recommend doing things you should already do to prevent the spread of any illness, including handwashing, maintaining distance from people who are coughing and not touching one’s face with unwashed hands.
