Rising Tejano singer Marcus Daniels and friends pay tribute to legendary Tejano singer “El Charro Negro” Bobby Butler with an “El Papalote” remake.
“El Papalote” is a 1969 Tejano classic and the title track from Butler’s solo album.
Butler passed away on his 79th birthday on October 14 at his home in San Angelo, Texas, and was a member of Little Joe and the Latinaires, who later became a co-founder of Tortilla Factory with Tony “Ham” Guerrero.
The remake of this classic song is the brainchild of producer Sotero Soniceros of Algo Suave, who also played keyboards on the track. The song features Daniels on vocals, Lazaro Martinez on bajo/guitar, Memo Rincon on bass, Chris Rivera on drums, Porfirio Sanchez on trumpets, and Jay Gomez on accordion.
“I would like to thank all the guest musicians who volunteered their time and talents for my project,” said Sonieros. “This was done in the memory of Bobby Butler ‘Charro Negro’ R.I.P.”
The remake is available for free download from Tex Sound Publishing’s website. Click here to get the song.
