Tejano music powerhouses LA 45 and the legendary Ruben Ramos, “El Gato Negro,” have joined forces for a deeply personal and moving tribute album honoring the late Alfonso Ramos — beloved vocalist, saxophonist, and a true pioneer of Tejano music. The long-anticipated NextGen Latinx Records project, over a year in the making, is a rich celebration of Alfonso’s musical legacy and enduring influence on generations of artists and fans alike.
This heartfelt collaboration, goes beyond music. Joining Ruben on this special recording is his brother, Joe Ramos, who contributes guitar and background vocals — a rare and emotional reunion of the last two surviving Ramos brothers. The album features a collection of songs from Alfonso’s expansive catalog, personally selected by Ruben to reflect the soul, joy, and spirit that defined his big brother’s life and career.
Adding layers of richness and reverence to the project are special guest appearances by some of Tejano’s finest talents, including Rick Fuentes, Chris Rivera, Will O’Rourke, Little Henry Lee, Steve “Rat” Silvas, Rupert Pacheco, and Charles Reyna — each lending their unique sound to honor Alfonso’s memory.

The tribute album and its upcoming release event represent more than just a celebration of music; they are a testament to love, resilience, and the power of family. Ruben Ramos, a two-time GRAMMY winner with a career spanning over six decades, opened up recently about his journey back to the stage after a life-threatening health crisis in 2018 that left him unable to sing. Following triple bypass surgery and a lengthy recovery — further complicated by the pandemic — Ramos has emerged with renewed strength and passion.
“At this moment now, I’m kind of like reinventing myself,” Ramos shared in a recent interview with Domingo Live. “I’m here. Now I’m ready to go down.”
In 2022, Ramos released Inolvidable, a fitting title for an artist whose contributions to Tejano music are truly unforgettable. Through it all, he credits music — and his loyal fans — for keeping him going. “Music saved my life,” he said, recounting how his brothers first pulled him into their band and helped him find purpose through performing.
Now, with LA 45 by his side, Ruben Ramos is once again channeling the healing power of music to pay tribute to the brother who helped guide him to the stage all those years ago. This special album is a reminder that while legends may pass on, their songs — and the love behind them — live forever.
