BMI is continuing its efforts to support women shaping the future of música Mexicana with the third installment of “Las Compositoras+,” a four-day songwriting camp held earlier this month in Los Angeles.
Led by acclaimed singer-songwriter Erika Vidrio, the camp brought together eight rising and established songwriters for creative collaboration and the development of new songs for potential placements.
The participants included Damaris Bojor, Lorena Cabral, Tania Dominguez, Poe Leos, MXKA, Marián Oviedo, Jacqie Rivera and Adriana Ríos.
Organized by Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI), the initiative aims to foster connections among female songwriters while creating opportunities for women to contribute to the continued growth of música Mexicana.
“Las Compositoras+ is about fostering community and creating space for connection and collaboration,” said Lilibeth Patron, BMI’s associate director of Creative, Latin. “Música Mexicana has historically been a male-dominated field, making it more important than ever to champion the women creatives who are shaping its future.”
The four-day retreat began at Fender’s offices, where each participant received a Fender guitar and PreSonus equipment. The songwriters then moved to a house in Bel Air, where they spent the remainder of the camp working together, exchanging ideas and developing original material.
The collaborative environment provided the writers an opportunity to explore new creative directions and build relationships while working toward songs that could potentially find homes with recording artists and other music projects.
Creating Opportunities for Women in Música Mexicana
The third edition of Las Compositoras+ reflects BMI’s continued commitment to supporting songwriters and expanding opportunities for women in a genre where female creators have historically faced barriers to representation.
By bringing together songwriters with different experiences and creative perspectives, the camp seeks to strengthen professional relationships and encourage collaboration that can extend beyond the retreat itself.

About BMI
Celebrating more than 80 years of service to the music industry, BMI is a global music rights management organization representing public performance rights for millions of musical works created by songwriters, composers and music publishers.
Founded in 1939, BMI established an open-door policy that welcomed creators of blues, jazz, country and American roots music, helping broaden representation within the performing rights industry. Today, its repertoire spans multiple genres, from chart-topping hits to enduring musical favorites.
Through initiatives such as Las Compositoras+, BMI continues to invest in songwriter development and create spaces for emerging and established creators to collaborate.
As música Mexicana continues to reach audiences across generations and borders, initiatives supporting the women behind the music offer another avenue for songwriters to connect, create and contribute to the genre’s evolving sound.
