The Texas Internet Radio Chart (TIRC) is expanding its coverage of the Texas music landscape with the upcoming launch of the TIRC Tex-Mex Chart, a new radio airplay chart designed to recognize music that blends Texas Country and American roots traditions with Mexican-American cultural and musical influences.
The new chart is scheduled to begin its beta launch on January 1, 2027, but the development process is already underway. TIRC is currently accepting early music submissions and inviting artists, radio stations, promoters, managers and other music-industry professionals to participate in establishing the new format and its reporting community.
Defining the TIRC Tex-Mex Sound
According to TIRC, the new format is designed for a Texas-rooted sound that combines elements of Texas Country, Red Dirt, Country and Americana with Mexican-American musical and cultural influences.
Eligible music may be performed in English or Spanglish and can incorporate Spanish lyrics, cultural influences, rhythms, melodies or instrumentation while maintaining a recognizable Texas Country or American roots foundation.
TIRC emphasizes that the new chart is not intended to function as a Tejano, conjunto, norteño, banda or traditional regional Mexican chart. Fully Spanish-language recordings will not be eligible.
The organization summarizes the format as:
Texas Country roots + Mexican-American influence + English or Spanglish = TIRC Tex-Mex.
Rather than replacing established Texas Country or Mexican-American music formats, TIRC says the new chart is intended to provide a dedicated platform for artists and recordings that fall between traditional format boundaries.
Chart eligibility will be based on the music itself rather than an artist’s ethnicity, surname, appearance, birthplace or current residence.
Cynthia Garcia Named Assistant Chart Editor
As part of the development of TIRC Tex-Mex, Cynthia Garcia of G289 Productions & Entertainment has been named Assistant Chart Editor.
Garcia brings experience in artist management, radio promotion and the Texas music industry to the new initiative. She will work alongside TIRC Chart Editor Mark Sebby on artist and industry outreach, development of reporting stations, music review, format development and relationships throughout the Texas music community.
The team will also work to establish the initial reporting panel ahead of the official beta launch.
Early Music Submissions Now Open
Artists, managers, labels and radio promoters can now submit music for early consideration for the TIRC Tex-Mex Chart.
The early submission period will allow the TIRC team to begin reviewing recordings and building an initial music pool before the chart’s January 1, 2027, beta launch.
Music submissions are being accepted through the Texas Internet Radio Chart’s website: TexasInternetRadioChart.com
Those submitting music are encouraged to review the format’s criteria to determine whether their recordings fit the developing TIRC Tex-Mex sound.
TIRC Seeking Founding Reporting Stations
TIRC is also looking for internet and terrestrial radio stations interested in becoming part of the initial TIRC Tex-Mex reporting-station panel.
The organization says the goal is to develop the chart alongside the radio stations and music professionals who will ultimately help support the format, including program directors, artists, promoters, managers, songwriters and musicians.
While the official beta launch is scheduled for January 1, 2027, TIRC says development of the format, music community and reporting panel is already underway.
Radio stations and industry professionals interested in participating are encouraged to contact the TIRC Tex-Mex team.
