Officially released on August 26, 2026, via independent label VDiscosVersos Del Alma is a groundbreaking 11-track global music project that bridges cultures, eras, and continents. Funded in part by the City of San Antonio’s FY26 Individual Artist Grant, the album masterfully fuses traditional Latin rhythms with West African beats, Caribbean grooves, and vintage cinematic influences.

Versos Del Alma seamlessly weaves English, Spanish, and West African dialects into a cohesive sonic narrative. It’s a project where Afrobeat meets Latin, classic meets modern, and East meets West, all while honoring La Época de Oro (the Golden Age of Mexican cinema and music).

The album highlights a stellar lineup of international and award-winning guest collaborators:

  • Baba Kuboye: The global Afrobeat sensation joins forces with Velasquez to blend West African polyrhythms with classic Latin arrangements, showcasing a vibrant fusion on tracks like the guaguancó-infused “Pata Pata (Fools Rush In)” and the high-energy merengue “Siempre Mi Amor (Always My Love).”
  • Lili Haydn: The Grammy and Emmy-winning violinist and vocalist delivers a virtuoso performance on “Je Ne Sais Quoi” (Track 3), pairing the dramatic accents of traditional Argentine tango with the syncopated, tropical grooves of Caribbean bachata.
  • Isabel Marie: On “Tabú” (Track 5), Velasquez pairs up with the Latin Grammy-nominated vocal powerhouse for a stunning duet that delivers a vibrant, contemporary reimagining of classic mariachi.
  • Afro-Caribbean Legends: The album features a rich musical tribute to Afro-Caribbean roots with a fresh rendition of “Guantanamera,” featuring master percussionist Georgie Padilla alongside Nayleen Nunez and Gilberto Alvarez.

Beyond the star-studded features, Versos Del Alma boasts top-tier production credentials. The record was recorded, engineered, and mixed at San Antonio’s premier Blue Cat Recording Studios by multi-Grammy-winning engineer/producer Joe Trevino and assistant engineer Mauro Castro. Final mastering was completed in Bogotá, Colombia, by two-time Latin Grammy-winning mastering engineer Camilo Silva F.

For Velasquez—whose storied career includes a Latin Grammy victory for Best Tejano Album (Tex Mex Funk) and decades of leading The Latin Legendz—Versos Del Alma marks an ambitious new chapter. It showcases an artist at the height of his creative powers, using his San Antonio roots as a launching pad to unite global musical traditions.

Versos Del Alma is available now to stream and purchase across all major digital music platforms.
