Six-time Tejano Music Award winner Monica Saldivar is paying tribute to one of the artists who helped shape her musical journey with the release of her newest single, “Pero Me Acuerdo de Ti,” a cumbia/Tejana reimagining of Christina Aguilera‘s beloved Latin pop ballad.
The new single is now available on all major digital streaming platforms, offering fans a fresh take on a song that has remained a favorite since its original release on Aguilera’s 2000 Spanish-language album Mi Reflejo.
Produced by Latin GRAMMY Award-winning producers Carlos H. Alvarez and Jorge “El Güero” Hernández for Penfo Music, the recording transforms the emotional ballad into an energetic cumbia while preserving the heartfelt lyrics and powerful vocal performance that made the original so memorable.
For Saldivar, the song represents much more than another recording—it is a personal tribute to one of her greatest musical influences.
In a video shared on social media ahead of the release, the Tejano star explained why she chose to record the song.
“I wanted to give a backstory as to why I chose this song and the inspiration behind the song,” she said. “Obviously, if you didn’t know already, this song is a cover once recorded by Christina Aguilera, who is one of my absolute inspirations for music in English and in Spanish. It comes off of her first Latin album, Mi Reflejo.”
Saldivar said the song challenged her vocally while giving her the opportunity to honor an artist she has admired throughout her career.
“It means so much to me because it gives me a chance to really push myself vocally and, as I said earlier, to record a song that’s by one of my inspirations in music.”
She also expressed excitement for fans to hear the new arrangement.
“So, I hope everybody enjoys the song. I hope everybody enjoys the cumbia version of the song. And tell me, what is your favorite Christina Aguilera song?”
The new release showcases Saldivar’s signature ability to blend traditional Tejano sounds with contemporary influences, breathing new life into a Latin pop classic while remaining true to its emotional core.
The new single arrives following one of the biggest years of Saldivar’s career. At the 45th Tejano Music Awards last November, she earned three of the night’s top honors, taking home Best Female Artist, Video of the Year, and Collaboration of the Year alongside Texas Latino. The victories further cemented her status as one of the genre’s premier female performers.
A native of Grand Prairie, Texas, Saldivar first captured the attention of the Tejano music industry after winning the Tejano Idol competition in 2015. Her breakout success quickly led to recognition as Best New Female Artist at both the Tejano Music Awards and the My Tejano Awards, launching a career that has continued to gain momentum with each release.
Known for blending traditional Tejano roots with a fresh, contemporary sound, Saldivar has become one of the genre’s most recognizable voices. Her ability to honor the genre’s traditions while embracing modern influences continues to attract a new generation of listeners while keeping her a favorite among longtime Tejano music fans. Saldivar continues to expand the reach of Tejano music by introducing familiar songs to new audiences through a distinctly South Texas sound.
“Pero Me Acuerdo de Ti” follows a string of successful releases for the award-winning singer-songwriter and further demonstrates her commitment to celebrating the genre’s rich musical heritage while embracing songs that have inspired her throughout her career.
With its infectious cumbia rhythm, polished production, and heartfelt performance, Saldivar’s latest release offers both longtime Tejano fans and Christina Aguilera listeners a fresh reason to revisit one of Latin pop’s most enduring ballads.
