Angelica Y Moneda is gearing up for its next musical chapter as the award-winning group puts the finishing touches on its highly anticipated new EP, Tejanova, led by the recently released single “Ojalá Que No.”
During an interview with Tejano Nation Radio host Romeo, frontwoman Angelica Alcoser shared an update on the project, revealing that while the band originally planned to complete the EP by the end of May, quality ultimately took priority over meeting a deadline.
“We had hoped to be done with our EP on May 31st,” Angelica said. “But Tweet and I are gigging musicians, our producer is a gigging musician, and everyone got really busy. We didn’t want to rush the project and just throw something together. We always want to put out the very best product that we can.”
The result is Tejanova, a project Alcoser says represents a fresh yet deeply rooted direction for the band.
“Nova is like a star, so we combined Tejano and Nova,” said Angelica. “We wanted a title that reflected both our heritage and our evolution. A nova represents a brilliant NEW burst of light, so combining Tejano and Nova gave us TejaNova—a fresh chapter while staying true to the music we love.”
The group’s first single from the project, “Ojalá Que No,” introduced fans to the EP’s traditional Tejano sound. Now, Angelica Y Moneda is preparing to release its follow-up single, “Aquí Estaré,” in the coming weeks.

A Traditional Tejano Sound
While the band’s previous releases explored a blend of Tejano, pop and Norteño influences, Alcoser says Tejanova embraces a more classic dancehall feel.
“This EP is very Tejano roots-driven,” she explained. “It’s very traditional Tejano. If you like to dance, you’re going to love this EP.”
The project reunites the band with producer Michael Rodriguez, who also produced their La Casa de Moneda EP. Angelica praised Rodriguez for encouraging an organic songwriting process instead of relying solely on modern production techniques.
“He loves sitting down, throwing ideas on the table and creating music naturally,” she said. “I think you’re going to hear that in this project.”
The additional studio time has even opened the door for Tejanova to expand beyond an EP.
“It may go from an EP to a full album now that we have more time,” Alcoser revealed.
New Music, Familiar Collaborators
The upcoming collection features several songs written by songwriter Jose Guerrero, who penned “Ojalá Que No,” “Dame Un Beso,” and “Dile A Esa,” while Angelica contributed her own original composition, “Vete Ya De Aquí.”
The next single, “Aquí Estaré,” was written by producer Michael Rodriguez alongside two other co-writers. Fans can also expect a fresh musical twist.
“We’ve never had a saxophone as prominent as it is on this song,” Alcoser said. “It’s a very danceable record.”
She described the song as having the energy of a collaboration between Emilio Navaira Selena, and David Lee Garza, creating an infectious blend of Tejano rhythm and contemporary flair.
Trusted Production Team Returns
The new project continues Angelica Y Moneda’s partnership with Gruene Studio, where Orlando Hargrove oversees production alongside mixing engineer Eddie Perez.
Perez not only handles mixing duties but also performs bass, percussion and background vocals throughout the project, while his son, Eddie Perez Jr., featured on drums.
Angelica praised the team’s attention to detail.
“Everything is blended so tastefully,” she said. “You can hear every instrument clearly, and that’s why we’ve continued working with Eddie and Orlando.”
Expanding Tejano’s Reach
Away from Moneda, Angelica and accordionist Tweet Juarez continue performing with their longtime corporate band, Velvet, introducing audiences across the country to Tejano music.

One recent performance at San Antonio’s historic 1902 Venue—formerly Sunset Station, where Selena filmed the iconic “No Me Queda Más” music video—left a lasting impression.
Angelica recalled performing a Selena medley for hundreds of pediatric nurses attending a national conference.
“They’re from all over the United States, but when we started singing ‘Como La Flor,’ everyone sang along,” she said. “Even when we’re performing with Velvet, we’re still introducing people to Tejano music.”
That mission has become central to the group’s purpose.
“We’re not chasing fame anymore,” Angelica said. “We’re chasing impact—whether it’s on a Velvet stage, a Moneda stage, through the Tejano Next Gen Fund, or through our recorded music.”
Building Momentum
Formed in 2023, Angelica Y Moneda has quickly earned a reputation for blending exceptional musicianship with a fresh vision for Tejano music. The group pairs Latin Grammy-winning accordionist Tweet Juarez with powerhouse vocalist Angelica Alcoser, who captured Best Vocal Performance at the Premios Tejano Mundial 2025.
Angelica previously earned Best New Female Artist at the 42nd Annual Tejano Music Awards and Top New Female Artist at the 2022 My Tejano Awards.

While fans continue enjoying songs from the band’s KARMA and La Casa de Moneda projects, anticipation is building for Tejanova and the upcoming release of “Aquí Estaré.”
If the music lives up to Angelica’s promise, Tejano dancers will have plenty of new reasons to fill the dance floor later this year.
