Fort Worth-based Tejano Outlaw Band is making a strong first impression with the premiere of its debut music video for “Quiero Volver Contigo,” an original progressive Tejano ranchera produced by Tejano icon Shelly Lares and featuring lyrics by award-winning songwriter Jose Rosario.

The rising group recently joined host Barbi Leo on Domingo Live to discuss the band’s origins, their unexpected collaboration with Lares, and the journey that led to the release of their first single and music video.

Led by vocalist and band owner Mark Flores, Tejano Outlaw Band is comprised of musicians who have spent years performing throughout North Texas with various groups before coming together under a shared vision.

“We’ve all played with different bands through the area,” Flores explained. “Me and Oscar started out as an acoustic duo, and people started asking us, ‘Can you play more? Can you get a band together?’ Slowly but surely, we all kind of knew each other already and started asking, ‘Do you want to join the band?’ The great thing is we all have the same vision and want to do the same thing. The magic happened.”

That chemistry quickly translated into opportunities, including an unexpected connection with Lares through Fort Worth-based promotional team Texican Entertainment.

According to Flores, Rachel and Ram Ramirez of Texican Entertainment shared video footage of the band with Lares. Shortly afterward, he received an email from her record label.

“I thought it was a joke,” Flores admitted. “I thought it was spam. Then we noticed it was legit. We started talking to Shelly, and by September we found ourselves doing a photo shoot in Blanco, Texas, for the upcoming single. We were recording that afternoon.”

The project moved quickly from there. By November, the band was in San Antonio completing vocals and instrumentation. Months later, the finished product arrived with the release of the official music video.

“We’re a working band,” Flores said. “We’re in and out every weekend playing somewhere. We weren’t expecting this so fast. Like Mike said, we kind of hit lightning in a bottle unexpectedly.”

For keyboardist and music director Michael Perez, working alongside Lares was an invaluable experience.

“The great thing about working with Shelly is that she was very open to ideas,” Perez said. “I got to play on the actual song and work with her. Mark and I were working together as well as the other guys. It was a great opportunity to partner and collaborate with her. It was very progressive, and that’s what we were wanting as a group.”

Lares, known for helping develop emerging talent throughout her career, crafted the song specifically around the band’s vision.

“She asked me, ‘What kind of direction does the band want to go?’” Flores recalled. “I told her we wanted to be progressive. We wanted to bring back that Tejano sound from the ’90s. She said, ‘I’ve got the perfect song for you.’”

The result is “Quiero Volver Contigo,” a track that blends classic Tejano nostalgia with modern production and contemporary energy. Produced under Lares’ ShellShock Records 3 label, the song showcases the band’s desire to honor the genre’s roots while pushing forward.

The lyrics tell a familiar story of heartbreak and regret.

“It’s about lost love,” Flores explained during the interview. “The guy realizes what he had after it’s gone. He’s by himself, miserable, and saying, ‘Quiero volver contigo.’ He promises to love her until the end of time.”

With its infectious ranchera groove, polished production, and emotional storytelling, “Quiero Volver Contigo” is already positioning Tejano Outlaw Band as one of the newest groups to watch on the Tejano scene.

For a band that began as a simple acoustic duo and evolved through friendships formed on stages across North Texas, the debut release represents both a milestone and a promising beginning.

The official music video for “Quiero Volver Contigo” is now available, marking the first chapter in what Tejano Outlaw Band hopes will be a long and successful journey in Tejano music.
