The iconic group recently shared photos from Freddie RecordsLegends Sound Studios in Corpus Christi, Texas, signaling the start of a new recording chapter for one of the genre’s most enduring acts.

“Feeling blessed and inspired. We are back at Freddie Records Studio working on La Fiebre’s 16th album!” the band wrote on social media. “Thank you for being part of this journey and for your continued support over the last 41 years. We’re excited about what’s ahead and can’t wait to share this new chapter with all of you. Stay tuned—new music is on the way!”

According to band manager and Tejano ROOTS Hall of Fame promoter Jim Luna, La Fiebre has already recorded at least seven to eight songs for the upcoming project, which marks the group’s return to Freddie Records, a label that has played a significant role in the band’s storied career.

The recording sessions represent another milestone for a group that has continuously reinvented itself while remaining rooted in the sound that helped define modern Tejano music.

“La Fiebre has evolved through more than 30 musicians, each contributing an essential piece to the band’s enduring legacy,” the band shared. “But history can’t be changed—Rudy Rocha and Joe Angel Reynosa wrote the first page and 41+ consecutive years later, the story is still being written. Now with their sixth vocalist, along with returning and new members, we truly believe another powerful chapter is about to unfold.”

Founded in 1985 by Rudy Rocha and Joe Angel Reynosa, La Fiebre rose from humble beginnings on Joseph Street in Pasadena, Texas, to become one of the most influential and recognizable names in Tejano music. What started as a local rock band performing at weddings and quinceañeras soon evolved into a groundbreaking force that helped redefine the Tejano concert experience.

The band’s breakthrough came with the release of Contagious in 1988, which featured fan favorites “Vestida De Color De Rosa” and “Por Tu Culpa.” Momentum continued with the platinum-selling On The Rise in 1989, led by the smash hit “Borracho De Besos.” Over the years, La Fiebre built a reputation for combining powerful vocals, dynamic brass arrangements, and high-energy stage productions that attracted loyal fans across Texas and beyond.

A cornerstone of the group’s signature sound has always been its horn section, and that tradition remains intact today. Original member Rick Patino has returned on trumpet and saxophone, helping preserve the classic musical foundation that longtime fans have embraced for decades.

Among the band’s newest highlights is the arrival of lead vocalist Abel Talamantez. The internationally recognized Latin Grammy-winning artist and former member of Menudo, MDO, Kumbia Kings, and Los Super Reyes officially joined La Fiebre and made his debut performance with the group in February 2026.

His addition has injected fresh energy into the band’s evolving sound while maintaining the authenticity that has defined La Fiebre since its inception. Joining him are his brother Rey Talamantez in the brass section, along with new members Raymond Anthony Garza on keyboards, Daniel “D-Rock” Sandoval on drums, and veteran accordionist Wero Falcon.

The current lineup arrives at a pivotal moment for the organization. Following major transitions in 2025, including the departure of several longtime members and legal matters that resulted in separate groups carrying on different paths, Rocha, Reynosa, Luna, and the current lineup remain focused on the future.

During a recent appearance on Domingo Live, Talamantez hinted that fans can expect much more than just a new album.

“We got a lot of stuff, I mean, a lot of projects,” Talamantez said.

Luna echoed that forward-looking approach.

“Nosotros, as a whole, we are about our future, we’re about our, the historic platforms that these people have been on, speaking of La Fiebre Rudy and Joe,” Luna said. “We’re going to be positive about what we do, we’re not looking or saying anything bad about anybody. Nosotros, we understand that things happen in life, and things go on, but as a whole, the original La Fiebre, the Pride of Pasadena, we’re moving forward, and we continue, and we give everybody props. We’re not looking to talk bad about anybody. Nosotros, we got to do what we’re planning to do.”

La Fiebre’s history with Freddie Records includes one of the band’s most celebrated achievements — a Grammy nomination in 1998 for Fiebre Live…En Concierto! The group also earned gold and platinum success with albums such as No Cure and 911, further cementing its place among Tejano music’s elite.

Now, 41 years after Rocha and Reynosa first launched the band, La Fiebre is once again writing a new chapter. With fresh songs already recorded, a revitalized lineup, and a renewed commitment to the future, fans won’t have to wait much longer to hear what’s next from one of Tejano music’s most enduring institutions.

For La Fiebre, the story continues — and album No. 16 is officially underway.
