The evening will open with a special performance by Mariachi Los Paisanos under the direction of Michael Acevedo, setting the tone with the rich traditions of Mexican music.

“San Antonio has long been the heartbeat of Tejano music,” said Glenn Martínez, dean of the UTSA College of Liberal and Fine Arts. “Bringing together these legendary artists at the Empire Theatre is a powerful tribute to the sound of our city.”

More than just a concert, “Sonidos de San Antonio 2026” also marks a meaningful investment in the future. Proceeds will support an inaugural scholarship for UTSA students as part of the university’s Sonido Tejano initiative, which aims to preserve and elevate the genre through education and performance.

Serving as lead producer is Lares, who also holds the distinction of UTSA’s artist-in-residence and Tejano Ensemble co-director.

“For me, this is a dream realized,” Lares shared. “Tejano music represents generations of culture, pride, and storytelling. Our students aren’t just learning the music—they’re learning the roots behind it. This is just the beginning of building the future of Tejano music.”

The concert arrives just ahead of San Antonio’s annual Fiesta season, offering fans a vibrant cultural moment that bridges past and present. From the accordion-driven rhythms of conjunto to the electrifying energy of Tejano, the night promises to showcase the very artists who built the genre—and those ensuring its legacy lives on.

Co-producer Jaclyn Tacoronte called the event a full-circle moment.

“Tejano and Conjunto music are the heartbeat of San Antonio’s cultural identity,” Tacoronte said. “Bringing these legendary artists together is not only an honor, but a celebration of the community and music that shaped so many of us.”

“Sonidos de San Antonio 2026” stands as a rare and powerful gathering of Tejano music royalty—an evening where legends share one stage to celebrate a genre that continues to define the spirit of South Texas.
