Two-time Latin GRAMMY–winning singer-songwriter Juan Treviño has released his powerful new single, “Me Estoy Haciendo Daño,” across all digital platforms. The deeply personal cumbia blends raw emotion with rich musical textures, reaffirming Treviño’s reputation for heartfelt storytelling and artistic authenticity.
An intimate, hard-hitting confession about love after it’s gone, “Me Estoy Haciendo Daño” captures the quiet devastation that lingers long after a relationship ends. It’s the empty room, the phone playing only sad songs, and the ritual of wearing a former lover’s perfume to calm the anxiety. With vulnerable delivery and poetic lyricism, Treviño confronts the painful truth: “Me estoy haciendo daño, yo lo sé”—I’m hurting myself, I know—owning the idea that sometimes holding on is the only way to survive.
In a recent interview with Tejano Nation Radio host Romeo, Treviño revealed that the track almost didn’t happen.
“Well, it’s a new cumbia… I was actually going to release a single from my old album entitled ‘6’ that was nominated for the Latin Grammy. But I kind of felt like I needed something new. I was kind of over that project,” he shared. “So I started working on this song, and I really liked the way it came out.”
The result is a fresh sonic direction that still preserves his signature songwriting depth. Drawing inspiration from artists like Chicago, The Doobie Brothers, and Luis Miguel, Treviño fused classic pop-rock influences with cumbia rhythms, lush synthesizers, and prominent horn arrangements.
“I’m using horns on this track, so it’s a little different for me,” he explained. “It’s still keeping my same essence as far as the songwriting, but the song talks about a person who’s in pain… he’s no longer with the love of his life. He does everything the same like when she was there. He puts on her perfume to calm him down because he’s in panic mode… he doesn’t want to lose that feeling of needing her.”
The single also features standout musicianship, including saxophonist Rick Rios of Los Musicales, a longtime friend of Treviño’s, and drummer Rudy Olivares, son of the late Tejano legend Fito Olivares. Treviño himself handled the remaining instrumentation, recording much of the track from his home studio.
Originally intended for a Valentine’s Day release, the song’s delay only deepened its meaning.
“I wanted to release it on Valentine’s Day because even though it’s for love, there’s a lot of people who go through heartache around that time,” Treviño said. “I didn’t finish the song in time—that’s the only reason why I didn’t. But it’s another cumbia, and hopefully people can connect with it.”
Connection has long been at the core of Treviño’s artistry. He believes heartache songs resonate most deeply with listeners because they transport them back to specific moments in their lives.
“Those are my favorite songs,” he reflected. “Any song you were listening to at that time is going to take you back. You sometimes even feel the way you felt back then… like how a smell reminds you of something. I’ve always said that heartache songs are what people connect to more.”
“Me Estoy Haciendo Daño” not only reaffirms Treviño’s artistic point of view—love beyond commercialism, emotion without filters—but also signals the beginning of a new era. He plans to release three singles throughout 2026 before unveiling a full album next year.
Beyond his own catalog, Treviño remains one of the most sought-after songwriters across Tejano, Música Mexicana, and Texas Country, with songwriting sessions scheduled in Los Angeles and Nashville later this year.
With “Me Estoy Haciendo Daño,” Juan Treviño once again transforms heartbreak into poetry—proving that sometimes the most painful truths create the most unforgettable songs.
