Tejano Latin music artist Miguel St. Michael announces the release of his heartfelt Día de los Muertos single and music video, “Cumbia Espiritual.” Written by St. Michael and produced by Grammy Award–winner Fabian Hernandez, the song is a touching celebration of remembrance, resilience, and the eternal bond between the living and the departed.
Blending grief with gratitude, “Cumbia Espiritual” invites listeners to dance with their memories and honor their ancestors through rhythm and reflection.
“I wanted to write a song that embodied what Día de los Muertos has meant to me while honoring the loved ones who played such an important role in my life,” says Miguel St. Michael.
The accompanying music video, directed by Luis Miguel Ramírez (St. Michael) himself, beautifully brings this sentiment to life. More than just a visual, it serves as a sacred fusion of sound, imagery, and memory. The video guides viewers through the step-by-step creation of Miguel’s personal altar — adorned with cempasúchiles (marigolds), candles, and family photographs — interwoven with intimate archival footage from his family’s personal collection.

“Celebrating Día de los Muertos has always helped me process loss,” shares St. Michael. “Every year, as I add new photos to my altar, I’m reminded that those we’ve loved never really leave us — they live on through our memories, our art, and our joy. ‘Cumbia Espiritual’ is my way of dancing with them again.”
The song’s chorus — “This is a spiritual cumbia, cumbia de cempasúchil y de sal” — honors the sacred symbols that connect the worlds of the living and the dead. The lyrics also pay homage to Mictlán, the Aztec underworld, a vast and mysterious realm where souls journey through nine levels to reach eternal rest.
“I hope this new cumbia and music video bring others the same sense of healing and peace that they’ve brought to me,” says Miguel.
To mark the release, Miguel St. Michael & Los Milagros will host two Austin events that blend live performance, art, and community spirit:
- October 30 — Live Performance at The Cathedral
An intimate, immersive concert celebrating The Cathedral’s 6th anniversary. RSVP required. - October 31 — Central Market North Lamar (Halloween Night)
A special live performance and exclusive screening of the “Cumbia Espiritual” music video, inviting the community to honor the Día de los Muertos spirit through music, memory, and movement. RSVP required.
