Netflix has unveiled the official trailer for Selena y Los Dinos: A Family’s Legacy, the highly anticipated documentary about Selena Quintanilla-Perez and her family band, set to premiere on November 17. The film offers fans an intimate and unprecedented look at the Queen of Tejano Music’s journey from small-town performances to international superstardom, featuring never-before-seen footage from the Quintanilla family’s personal archive.
Directed by Isabel Castro (Mija, Darlin), the documentary was executive produced by Michele Anthony and Selena’s siblings, Suzette Quintanilla and A.B. Quintanilla III — who also played drums and bass in the band. The film captures the family’s roots, beginning with their humble start performing at quinceañeras, to their rise as chart-topping icons that helped bring Tejano music to the global stage.
“As a filmmaker, I wanted to honor her extraordinary rise and enduring legacy, while also giving a window into her life behind the stage,” says Castro. “Through personal archive and intimate interviews with her family, the film reveals new dimensions of her journey that have never been seen before. I am deeply grateful to her family for their trust and support throughout this journey, and I can’t wait for a global audience to experience the magic, heart, and community that Selena gave to all of us.”
Selena y Los Dinos: A Family’s Legacy premiered earlier this year at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, where it won the U.S. Documentary Special Jury Award for Archival Storytelling. The project was produced by Julie Goldman, Christopher Clements, J. Daniel Torres, David Blackman, and Simran Singh.
“We are so excited to finally share that our documentary Selena y Los Dinos is coming to Netflix!” says executive producer Suzette Quintanilla. “We’re grateful to have a platform that helps bring Selena’s story to fans around the world.”
The documentary explores the Quintanilla family’s origins — from performing at their Tex-Mex restaurant in Lake Jackson, Texas, to building the musical foundation that would shape Selena into a cultural icon. Through rare home videos and intimate interviews with her parents Abraham and Marcella, siblings Suzette and A.B., husband Chris Pérez, and bandmates, Selena y Los Dinos paints a portrait of the woman behind the legend: a daughter, sister, and wife whose spirit continues to inspire generations.
