RIO GRANDE VALLEY, TX — Irvin “Pee Wee” Salinas, the former lead vocalist for Kumbia All Starz and well-known Latin pop artist, was arrested over the weekend under suspicion of driving under the influence in the Rio Grande Valley.
The Texas Department of Public Safety reports that Salinas was pulled over Sunday night after a trooper allegedly caught him speeding. Following a field sobriety test, the 36-year-old was taken into custody and transported to the Hidalgo County Adult Detention Center. He remained there until Monday, when he was released after posting a $5,000 surety bond.
This is the second time Salinas has faced arrest in the Rio Grande Valley for the same alleged offense. In January 2024, he was taken into custody under similar circumstances. Hidalgo County court records show that the case was dismissed on April 30, 2025, and documents further indicate that an alcohol monitoring device was ordered removed from his vehicle on July 1, 2025.
Salinas rose to fame in the mid-2000s as a member of A.B. Quintanilla’s Kumbia All Starz, performing on hits such as “Sabes a Chocolate” and “Chiquilla.” He later launched a successful solo career, releasing chart-topping singles across the Latin pop and cumbia genres, earning multiple award nominations and a dedicated fanbase.
As of press time, Salinas has not made a public statement regarding the arrest. Details about potential charges and court appearances have not yet been released.
