Tejano pop star Jennifer Peña has officially premiered the highly anticipated music video for her latest single, “Wakala,” unleashing a vibrant visual that perfectly matches the fiery spirit of the cumbia-pop track. Directed by San Antonio filmmaker Bryan Ramirez, the video captures the song’s unapologetic attitude and infectious energy — a defiant anthem for anyone ready to ditch heartbreak and dance their way forward.
The video opens with Peña behind a bar, sharing laughs and wisdom with an amiga played by Texas actress Tiny Rockbee, before launching into a confident, choreographed performance that even includes a spirited line dance, tailor-made for fans to follow along. The visuals echo the song’s powerful message: reclaim your joy, embrace your worth, and don’t look back.
Co-written by Peña and Tejano legend Pete Astudillo, “Wakala” pulls no punches. With sharp, empowering lines like “Eres un engreído, aburrido, un fracaso en mi camino” and “Ya me contaron mis amigas, con todas andas coqueteando y yo en la casa limpiando,” the song turns betrayal into liberation.
“‘Wakala’ isn’t just a word, it’s a reaction,” Peña says. “It’s when you decide not to put up with it anymore and choose to laugh as you move forward.”
“Wakala” marks a bold new chapter in Peña’s career. Known for her genre-blending sound that fuses Tejano, cumbia, and Latin pop, the multi-platinum artist continues to evolve. Recent releases like “Fuerte” (2023) and her collaboration with Los Inquietos del Vallenato on “Nunca Niegues Que Te Amo” prove she’s still pushing creative boundaries. Earlier this year, Peña also signed a distribution deal with Symphonic Latino, further expanding her reach in the digital era.
From her breakout albums Libre and Seducción to her continued chart success, Jennifer Peña remains a voice of strength and authenticity. With “Wakala,” she once again invites fans to dance through the heartbreak — with strength, sass, and a smile.
“Wakala” is available now on all digital platforms.
