HOUSTON, TX — Oscar De La Rosa, lead vocalist of legendary Tejano group La Mafia, issued a heartfelt and urgent warning to fans this week about a growing wave of online scams involving fake social media accounts pretending to be him or the band.
In an official statement shared on June 18, De La Rosa alerted followers that fraudulent pages—particularly on Facebook and Instagram—have been responding to fan comments and sending direct messages to promote fake Telegram groups and bogus giveaways. The scammers use deceptive phrases such as “send me a message for a gift” and have even begun using WhatsApp numbers to commit fraud.
“This is completely false and we would never ask for your personal information or money through any means,” De La Rosa stated. “Please don’t fall for these traps. The only way to make sure you’re in contact with my real accounts is to verify that they are officially marked with the blue checkmark.”
Oscar’s message echoes similar warnings recently issued by other Tejano stars, including Bobby Pulido, Jesse Turner of Siggno, and more, as impersonator accounts continue to target devoted fans across social platforms.
The warning comes as La Mafia continues their Vive El Momento Tour 2025, performing to sold-out crowds throughout the United States and Mexico. The band also launched their own tequila brand last year, expanding their legacy into the world of premium spirits.
Formed in Houston in 1980, La Mafia is one of the most influential and beloved bands in Tejano music history. Known for their signature blend of pop, cumbia, and traditional Mexican styles, the Grammy-winning group has released dozens of albums, topped charts, and performed around the world. Fronted by Oscar De La Rosa and producer/keyboardist Armando Lichtenberger Jr., La Mafia continues to be a powerful force in Latin music more than four decades after their debut.
Fans are encouraged to report any suspicious activity and always verify official accounts. “Thank you for your support,” De La Rosa added, “and most importantly—protect yourselves from scammers.”
