San Antonio, TX — The Mexican Standoff, an all-female Mexican American band, is making waves with the announcement of their debut album, Hola Texas! Set for release on March 11, 2025, the album is a heartfelt homage to the rich musical heritage of Texas, blending Tejano, country, and ranchero influences with a modern edge.
The album features collaborations with Grammy-winning legends Flaco Jimenez and Los Texmaniacs, bringing together generations of Texan and Mexican American talent. Produced by Fernanda Ulíbarri, Max Baca, and Joe Treviño, and mastered by Kurt Wipfli, Hola Texas! was recorded in San Antonio, Texas, where its deep roots and vibrant energy shine through every track.
A Tracklist Steeped in Tradition and Innovation
Hola Texas! reimagines classic songs through The Mexican Standoff’s unique perspective, infusing them with punk energy and a powerful female voice:
- “El Pantalón Blue Jean” – A bold reinterpretation of a 1950s classic from Flaco Jimenez’s father, flipping its original narrative with a fresh, female perspective.
- “Perlita” – A Texan folk song passed down through generations, now revived with soulful, modern vocals.
- “Amor Bonito” – A tribute to Lydia Mendoza, the trailblazing Tejana musician who paved the way for women in the genre.
- “Tu Dirás” – A traditional Mexican song from Mendoza’s repertoire, honoring Texan-Mexican musical roots.
- “En el Cielo No Hay Cerveza” – A lively German polka tune, popularized by Flaco Jimenez, that brings audiences to their feet.
- “Sola” – A poignant Agustín Lara ballad, closing the album with stripped-down instrumentation and raw emotion.
From the Stage to the Studio: A Rising Force in Mexamericana Music
Known for their electrifying live performances, The Mexican Standoff has captivated audiences across the country. Their signature Mexamericana sound fuses mariachi, country ranchero, and rock influences, breaking barriers in a genre where female voices have historically been underrepresented. The band has graced major venues like The Grand Ole Echo (Echoplex) and performed at renowned events including Viva Los Dodgers and L7’s Fast and Furious Festival.
Their unique sound has earned praise from NPR Latino, KCRW, and other major media outlets. The music video for their latest single, “El Pantalón Blue Jean”, went viral, and the track landed them their first Spotify cover feature.

A Labor of Love and Cultural Celebration
The journey to Hola Texas! began when frontwoman Fernanda Ulíbarri discovered the music of Flaco Jimenez and envisioned a collaboration. Teaming up with Max Baca of Los Texmaniacs, the band launched an Indiegogo campaign to bring their vision to life. What started as a single recording soon blossomed into a full-fledged album, uniting legendary musicians and fresh new voices in Mexican American music.
“This album is a celebration of Tejano music, its musicians, and the vibrant beginnings of Mexican American musical culture,” says Fernanda. “It’s also about amplifying female voices in a genre that has often overlooked them.”
With Hola Texas! releasing this March, The Mexican Standoff is gearing up for an extensive tour, bringing their infectious energy and cultural pride to audiences nationwide. Fans can expect a dynamic mix of tradition, innovation, and powerful storytelling at every show.
