
San Antonio, TX — Three-time GRAMMY-winning artist and cultural trailblazer Sunny Sauceda has joined Texas Folklife as the Director of Music & Heritage. A celebrated musician and advocate for Texas’s rich cultural traditions, Sauceda brings over four decades of expertise and a passion for preserving and promoting the state’s diverse heritage.
In his new role, Sauceda will lead Texas Folklife’s Music & Heritage programs, elevating the voices, stories, and sounds that define the unique cultural landscape of Texas. His leadership promises to broaden the impact of Texas Folklife’s mission to honor and sustain the living traditions that connect communities across the Lone Star State.

Oliver, Ph.D., Executive Director of Texas Folklife. “Sunny’s unparalleled artistry and commitment to community-driven storytelling perfectly aligns with our vision for the future. His leadership will help us amplify the rich cultural narratives that make Texas a global cultural treasure.”
Sauceda, renowned for his electrifying accordion performances and innovative approach to music production, has inspired audiences worldwide while earning a reputation as a cultural steward. His extensive work as a mentor, producer, and advocate for artistic independence has made him a beloved figure in the music industry and beyond.

As part of his role, Sauceda will also oversee the launch of Texas Folklife Records, an exciting new initiative debuting in January 2025. This program will create a platform for traditional and emerging artists to document and share their music, fostering connections between generations and ensuring the enduring legacy of Texas’s cultural treasures.
