David Marez’s journey in the Tejano music scene began in Mathis, Texas, and flourished in San Antonio. Influenced by legends such as Joe Bravo, Little Joe Hernandez, Sunny Ozuna, and Freddie Martínez, Marez carved out a unique space for himself in the genre. His tenure with the Royal Jesters produced classics like “Yo Soy Chicano,” and his solo career saw hits like “Entre Mas Lejos Me Vaya” and “Fijate,” both of which earned him Song of the Year honors at the Tejano Music Awards.

Marez’s albums, including “The Voice Is Back” (1986), “Sold Out” (1988), and “El Musicano” (1990), made significant impacts on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Albums chart. His later works, “Odyssey: The Journey” (2005) and “Corazón de Oro” (2007), garnered Grammy nominations, further solidifying his reputation as a Tejano music icon.
