The Avocado Festival 2024 in Pharr, Texas, was a vibrant celebration of music, community, and the beloved avocado on October 12. Tejano Nation contributing photographer Isaac Castillo captured stunning photos of the event, showcasing the energetic performances by Mesteño and La Casetera, who stole the show. This annual festival, first launched in 2023, has quickly become the signature event of the City of Pharr.
The festival honors the avocado, a fruit that plays a significant role not only in Pharr but across the entire nation. The Pharr International Bridge is responsible for crossing 80 percent of the nation’s avocados, contributing to $50 billion in trade annually. The festival is a way to celebrate this vital industry while bringing the community together for a day of fun, education, delicious food, and music.
Mesteño known for their dynamic Tejano sound, has been captivating audiences with their unique blend of traditional and contemporary influences. La Casetera, a retro show band, delights fans with their renditions of classic grupero, cumbia, and Tejano hits.
