The Tejano-Cumbia short film music video from Miguel St. Michael, “Guapito, Divino“, was recently awarded the Audience Choice Award for Best Music Video at the Latino Film Market Festival held in New York City.
This marks the second win for “Guapito, Divino” which previously won Best Music Video at the Texas Short Film Festival back in March. Miguel also received special recognition from the President of The Borough of Manhattan Mark Levine for his commitment and dedication to film making and the arts.
“It’s a huge blessing as a filmmaker and music artist to share my work in New York City, and during the month of Pride. Uploading your videos to YouTube is one thing, but actually having a screening and Q&A with a live audience is such a special experience,” says Miguel.

Among the selected artists competing for the prestigious award was San Antonio based big barrio band Bombasta.
“I was so happy to see Bombasta nominated in the same category for their music video ‘Barrio Unido.’ The funny thing was just a few years ago we were sharing the same bill at a SX Tex-Mex showcase in Austin. When I told the audience we had actually done a show together, they were shook!”
Miguel mentions that he has always been inspired by how Bombasta uses music videos to enhance the narratives of their lyrics.
“Being nominated alongside them was such an honor especially being that their work has really made me dig deeper when finding a bigger meaning to my music videos.”
Miguel St. Michael also recently released his debut solo album “Entre Luces” produced by Grammy Winner Fabian Hernandez which is available on all streaming platforms. He will be also be performing June 29 at Central Market Westgate in Austin, Texas with his live band to close out the month.
“Guapito, Divino” was also recently screened at the prestigious Cine Las Americas Festival during the month of May and is an official selection for the LGBTQ Unbordered International Film Festival. The production was funded in part by the Austin Live Music Grant.

“It’s been a fun ride so far for “Guapito, Divino.” I’m incredibly thankful that the Austin Live Music Grant made it possible to realize the project. People seem to be really touched by the story. Knowing that my art as that impact makes everything worthwhile,” says Miguel.
