
In a sorrowful update to a story that has gripped the Tejano community, motorcyclist Steve Nerio has been charged with intoxication manslaughter following the fatal accident that claimed the life of beloved Lubbock radio show host, Amy Garza, known to her fans as “Amy-O.”
The incident, which occurred on Saturday, April 22, on Highway 90 near General McMullen, has led to a wave of mourning for the 44-year-old host of 104.9 The Beat. Garza was a passenger on Nerio’s motorcycle when the vehicle entered the highway illegally, colliding with a tow truck. The impact caused Garza to be ejected from the motorcycle, leading to her death at the scene, according to KENS5.com. Upon reviewing dash cam footage from the motorcycle, investigators determined that an “illegal maneuver” by Nerio led to a collision with the tow truck.

Nerio, 48, was hospitalized with injuries but now faces grave legal consequences as the arrest affidavit reveals a blood-alcohol content above the legal limit, along with the presence of cocaine and fentanyl in his system at the time of the accident. He was arrested and released on a $150,000 bond.
Before her time at The Beat 104.9, Amy-O shared her love for Tejano music at radio stations in Austin, Texas. She graced the airwaves at KKLB Club 92.5 FM, Super Tejano 1560 AM, and La Nueva 92.1 FM. Her warm and engaging presence resonated with listeners, and she played an essential role in promoting Tejano artists and culture.
This tragic event has not only left a void in the airwaves but also in the hearts of those who cherished Amy-O’s vibrant spirit and her dedication to community. A GoFundMe account has been established to cover Amy’s funeral expenses and to benefit her son, Xavier.
