The search for the next Tejano music star is back on! After a three-year hiatus, the Tejano Idol competition returns, promising to infuse the Tejano music scene with fresh and new talent.
The Austin Tejano Music Coalition (ATMC), the producer of the contest, announced that they are now accepting online submissions from singers across the nation who want to showcase their vocal skills and passion for Tejano music. The competition is open to solo singers of any age and genre, as long as they can perform a Tejano song.
The first filmed audition for Tejano Idol 2024 will be held at Don Darios, 8801 S I-35 Frontage Rd, Austin, TX, on Sunday, April 28, 2024, from 1-3 pm. Contestants will be judged by a panel of Tejano music industry professionals, who will select the Top 12 finalists based on their vocal ability, stage presence, and audience appeal.
The Top 12 finalists will then participate in the finale showcase, tentatively scheduled for September 8, 2024, at a venue in Austin, Texas. The finale will consist of celebrity judges, 12 finalists, and a room full of Tejano music fans and media anxiously awaiting the yearly results. The winner and runner-up will receive a cash prize, a recording session, and other perks. Third place will also receive prizes and recognition. Prizes and hotel accommodations are provided for the finale.
Past Tejano Idol finalists include Tejano Music Awards winners Monica Saldivar and Liz Garcia, along with Devin Banda and Carlos Garcia. Some of the Tejano Idol finalists have gone on to record albums, perform at major events, and collaborate with other Tejano artists.
If you are interested in participating in the Tejano Idol 2024, you can submit a video of yourself singing a Tejano song to tejanoidol@gmail.com. The deadline for submissions is the first weekend of August 2024. For more information, visit the ATMC on Facebook.
