UTSA Strings presents ¡Vive Con Ganas! featuring Patsy Torres and Mariachi Los Paisanos

SAN ANTONIO, Tex. — The UTSA School of Music invites you to join them for a special concert celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month on October 3, 2023, at 7:30 p.m. at the UTSA Recital Hall. The concert, titled “Vive Con Ganas!”, will feature the award-winning legendary Patsy Torres Band and the UTSA’s own Mariachi Los Paisanos.

Patsy Torres is one of the most important and influential Tejano entertainers of our time. She has performed for live audiences of more than 100,000 people, appeared on national television for millions of viewers, and traveled all over the world winning countless awards for her musical talents and community works. She is also a youth advocate and an ambassador of cultural awareness and appreciation. Her highly-anticipated new album is “Vive Con Ganas,” a message to live your life to the fullest with passion, energy, drive, hope, love, and faith. The song selections encompass life’s trials and tribulations but with promising endings. The album includes a medley of 3 of Patsy’s early hits from the 1980s and is available for pre-order at patsytorres.com.

Mariachi Los Paisanos is quickly becoming one of UTSA Music’s most beloved and fastest-growing ensembles. The group traces its ties to the heart of San Antonio’s Hispanic cultural identity through mariachi music with its traditional instrumentation, songs, and trajes. The mariachi ensemble frequently performs in the San Antonio metro area as well as in UTSA Recital Hall and during commencement ceremonies. The ensemble is under the direction of Michael Acevedo and is open to students from all majors.

The event will also feature additional music from Jesus Florido, Astor Piazzolla, Jose Lafitte White, and UTSA Student Composer Alexa Valles.
