If you are a fan of Tejano and Conjunto music, you might have heard of The Ybarra Boyz, a young duo of brothers who play the bajo quinto and the accordion. Abraham and Rogelio Ybarra, both born and raised in McAllen, Texas, have gained thousands of views for their TikTok videos sharing their passion for this musical genre. Now, they are ready to take the next step in their musical career with their first original song, “Vamos A Bailar”.
“Vamos A Bailar” is a fun up-tempo cumbia, which invites everybody to get up and dance. The track was written and produced by Latin Grammy Nominated artist and acclaimed songwriter/producer, Jerry Alvarez and recorded at MP Recording Studios in Weslaco, Texas, by Joe Leal Jr. The song showcases the talent and charisma of the young brothers, who sing and play with enthusiasm and joy.
Abraham Ybarra, 10, plays the bajo quinto and shares his experience of recording in the studio: “My experience when I recorded in the studio was awesome! For example, when I got there, I started to tell my parents and Jerry that I couldn’t believe that a song with such simple words, very basic, could turn out to sound amazing and sound so awesome and cool. When it was my turn to sing, I needed help. I felt nervous, worried, and scared because this was the first time I’d ever recorded singing. I didn’t want to feel like a fool. I felt like I needed help with the pronunciation of some of the words. My mom, dad, and Jerry came to the vocal room and encouraged me to sing with Animo, passion, but also to have fun. The words ‘Vamos A Bailar’ remind me of when we play at gigs or events, because I tell the people ‘vamos a bailar’ so they can dance and have fun.”
Rogelio Ybarra III, 12, plays the accordion and also shares his experience: “My experience when I recorded in the studio was so awesome! We get to send the music to iTunes or even Spotify. My favorite part when we got there was seeing the studio with old discs of old songs that Joe had there. Then when we began recording, I liked it when they added the music of every instrument, it sounded so cool. Also, I enjoyed recording words like ‘Muevelo’ and ‘Yeah’! It’s going to sound very good. When the people hear it, I think they will like it.”
The Ybarra Boyz are excited to share their first original song with their fans and hope to inspire more people to enjoy Tejano and Conjunto music. “Vamos A Bailar” is available now on Spotify, iTunes, YouTube, and other streaming platforms. Don’t miss this catchy and energetic song that will make you want to dance!
