The documentary, directed by two-time Emmy winner Rudy Valdez and produced by Sony Music Entertainment and Imagine Documentaries, takes viewers on a journey through Santana’s childhood in Mexico, his migration to the US, his rise to fame with his band Santana in the late 1960s and early 1970s, his spiritual awakening, his collaborations with other artists, and his enduring legacy as a global icon. The film features interviews with Santana himself, his family members, his bandmates, his mentors, his friends, and his collaborators, as well as rare archival footage, concert footage, home videos, and behind-the-scenes footage.

“CARLOS: The Santana Journey” also explores Santana’s cultural impact and social activism, as he has used his music and his platform to promote peace, love, and harmony among people of different backgrounds and beliefs. Santana has won 10 Grammy awards and three Latin Grammy awards and has sold over 100 million records worldwide. He has also been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Kennedy Center Honors.

The film’s director, Rudy Valdez, said in a statement: “I am honored and humbled to tell Carlos Santana’s story as a director. Carlos is a true trailblazer who has meant so much to so many people. My hope is that this film is a celebration of a life defined by humanity. It was incredibly impactful to see someone who looks like me blow up the boundaries and expectations the world had placed on him as a Mexican immigrant and person of color, and I’m thrilled to be putting this story out into the world.”

Carlos Santana said in a statement: “I am honored and grateful to have partnered with Imagine Documentaries and Sony Music to bring my story to light. Director Rudy Valdez, along with Ron, Brian, Justin, and Sara have embraced this journey, which is one of triumph and adventurousness. The intentionality of this film is to touch people’s hearts and to inspire people to re-connect with their own light that they may ignite blessings and miracles.”

“CARLOS: The Santana Journey” will be playing in select theaters worldwide on Sept. 23, 24 and 27. For more information on showtimes and tickets, visit http://www.carlosfilm.com. The film will be released to the general public on Sept. 29.
