Jaime DeAnda will be inducted into the Texas Conjunto Music Hall of Fame and Museum this summer as the Conjunto icon will be part of the 19th annual induction ceremony on July 15, 2023, in San Benito, Texas.
The letter DeAnda received from the Texas Conjunto Music Hall of Fame and Museum states he was chosen for his exceptional work as a lifelong Conjunto/Tejano musician over four decades as a vocalist and master accordionist. He continues to entertain and captivate audiences with his talent and brilliant stage performance, and his dedication to the Conjunto music genre will be a legacy that will live on for decades.
DeAnda commented on the honor. “Feeling very honored to be inducted alongside these pioneers I grew up listening to when I was a Chamaco,” he said. “I can now accept the fact that I’m a legend.”
DeAnda’s career spans more than 40 years with most of that time spent as the frontman of Jaime Y Los Chamacos, he split with Los Chamacos in December 2018. The band had been cranking out hit songs together since 1982, releasing many successful albums and classic hits including “Yolanda,” “Mi Musica Favorita,” and many more. They received multiple Grammy and Latin Grammy nominations.
The induction comes about a year and a half after DeAnda recovered from a critical medical crisis in December 2021, when the legendary accordionist and vocalist had life-saving surgery after an infection affected his tongue, mouth, and throat.
The 19th annual Texas Conjunto Music Hall of Fame Museum and Induction Awards will take place at La Villita Dance Hall in San Benito, Texas, on Saturday, July 15, 2023.
The Texas Conjunto Music Hall of Fame & Museum, founded in 2001, is part of the Museums of San Benito, the birthplace of Conjunto music, works to promote, preserve, archive, document, and display the history of regional Conjunto music by honoring those who create it. The museum presented a grand re-opening earlier this year. Learn more at texasconjuntomusic.org.
