After a viral video of K-Pop group MUSTB joining Grupo Control on stage to dance to the cumbia group’s hit song “Tao Tao” during a performance on South Padre Island last fall, the two internationally recognized groups have teamed for a cumbia remix of MUSTB’s song “La Señorita.” The lyric video premiered this week.
Grupo Control accordionist Jennifer Degollado shared the exclusive details on the collaboration during an interview with The AC Cruz Podcast. “It’s a K-Pop song with cumbia and it’s out of this world, something I’ve never heard before and I really personally like it,” she said. “Oh my goodness, it’s amazing and y’all are going to really love it!”
K-pop, short for Korean popular music, is a form of popular music originating in South Korea as part of the country’s culture. The genre has become a global phenomenon over the past few years due to its blend of addictive melodies, slick choreography and production values, and an endless parade of attractive South Korean performers.
MUSTB is a five-member all-male K-pop group from Seoul, which debuted in 2019. The group’s most recent EP release was the Latin-inspired La Senorita.

This isn’t the only collaboration in the future for Degollado, as she also shared the news of a song with another next-generation artist, Latin Grammy-nominated singer Destiny Navaira.
“We haven’t started the process yet, we’re still talking about it,” she said. “But yes, I do have something coming up with her with myself featured on the accordion for a song of hers.”
Grupo Control has been entertaining fans with their high-energy cumbia hits since the release of their debut album Sin Control in 1999. The group, known as “Los Reyes de la Cumbia” (The Kings of Cumbia), has gained success with many gold and platinum-selling albums and has gone through changes over the years, including adding Jennifer Degollado as the band’s accordionist, joining her father Sergio Degollado, founder and bajo sexto player for the band.
Jennifer explains she joined when her father was going through a difficult time. “It was during this really hard time that my dad’s mother passed away, my grandma, and so he needed something to help him — he felt like I needed to be there to distract him from those thoughts that we get sometimes from something like that happening,” she said. “I just noticed as I entered that he was so happy all the time and we were bonding more than ever. It’s been a great experience since I entered. It’s been amazing.”
