
SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS — Jay Perez and Shelly Lares were the big winners at the 42nd annual Tejano Music Awards on Saturday night at the Tech Port Center + Arena in San Antonio, Texas.
Perez won three of the four categories in which “The Voice” was nominated including Male Vocalist of the Year, Album of the Year for “El Maestro,” which contained the Song of the Year, “Eres.”
Lares won Female Entertainer of the Year and Collaboration of the Year for “Nada De Ti,” a song that featured “Little Miss Dynamite” with Monica Saldivar, Sonja De La Paz, and Demmi Garcia.
Winners of the Best New Artist categories included The Homeboyz as Best New Group with Conjunto band’s lead singer Elias Arredondo as Best New Male and Angelica Alcoser as Best New Female.
Sunny Sauceda was named Entertainer of the Year, while Lucky Joe won Conjunto Album of the Year for “Norteño y Poderoso (Tributo a Mis Ídolos),” and Roger Velasquez & The Latin Legendz won Video of the Year with “Amor del Otro Lado,” directed by iconic actor Jesse Borrego.
Lifetime Achievement Awards recognized musician and producer Gilbert Velasquez and Roman Martinez, founder of the iconic Conjunto group The Hometown Boys.
