Veteran Conjunto musicians Los Arcos Hermanos Peña were selected to perform as official showcase artists at this year’s Folk Alliance International Conference (FAI) in Kansas City. The family band from the small west Texas town of Dimmitt will be closing out the Lone Star Showcase, presented by the Texas Music Office on Thursday, May 19, 2022.
While Jerry (accordion) and Luis Peña (bajo sexto) performed as an acoustic duo for an online showcase curated by Austin-based nonprofit Rancho Alegre during last year’s Folk Unlocked online conference, this is the first year they will be attending the conference in person and their set will feature the full band.
“We are so excited and grateful for this opportunity and we can’t wait to show the attendees who we are and what we can do. To be a part of such a diverse lineup and conference full of all kinds of music from all over the world is really amazing,” says the band.

Normally held in February, FAI returns to an in-person format with online components and accessibility after going completely online in 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic and postponing this year’s conference due to the Omicron variant.
First hosted in 1989, the private, members-only conference draws over 3,000 artists and industry (agents, managers, publishers, labels, festival/venue presenters, promoters, media) dedicated to folk music. Conference programming includes panels and workshops, official and private showcases, affinity groups, peer sessions, networking speed meetings, global summits, keynote speakers, an awards show, and more.
Every year, official showcase artists are selected through a highly competitive application process with applications submitted from every corner of the globe.

Since the 1970s, Los Arcos Hermanos Peña have worked hard to craft a unique sound that slides seamlessly between hardcore conjunto and a classic Relampagos Del Norte-inspired style and features fiery accordion, killer vocal harmonies, tight rhythms, and intricate bajo sexto. The band is always a fan favorite at every festival and event, particularly when the crowd hears the first few notes of their signature tune “El Borracho Del Año.” Los Arcos Hermanos Peña were inducted into the 2019 class of the Tejano ROOTS Hall of Fame.
