Catching up with Joe Lopez from super Grupo Mazz, the legendary singer recently spoke about his current music, the Tejano King Festival, and the future of the Tejano genre, during his outstanding performance in Cotulla, Texas at the Alexander Convention Center, on March 12, 2022.
With a full house, Mr. Lopez was able to take some time between his music sets to talk with Tejano Nation about his inspiration for his latest music.
“When music is your life, you don’t see it as a job, but a way of living. And I think it’s important to keep going no matter what,” he said. “I was real pleased with our newest album Freedom Tour, with Monterrey Music, and look forward to making and releasing new music.”
Lopez and the group are keeping busy with many performances throughout the year and are very excited to be performing in the Tejano Kings Festival at Rosedale Park in San Antonio, Texas on March 18-19, 2022, and personally took the time to invite all his loyal fans throughout the years to come out and enjoy the show. In 1991, the live concert album at Rosedale Park, Una Noche Juntos: Live, was awarded double platinum status and Joe López y Grupo Mazz plan a live recording for Tejano King Fest at Rosedale Park.
The event will also feature scheduled performances from Jay Perez, Ruben Ramos and the Texas Revolution, David Marez, Augustin Ramirez, David Farias, Magnifico 7, South Tx Homies, La Justicia Band, Marcus Daniels, El Dorado, Devin Banda, Adrian Gutierrez, Cindy Ramos, and Erika Renee.

Lopez shared his thoughts on the current state of the Tejano industry, saying he loves it and was very proud and honored to still be a big part of it.
“There are so many new talented artists out there, doing their own thing, changing it up, and it’s great to see them out there carrying on with Tejano music. I think it’s important to acknowledge and support all these new emerging artists for generations to come.”
