David Lee Rodriguez earned a Latin GRAMMY nomination for his debut solo album Asi Me Ensenaron in 2019. Now the West Texas singer is set to release his sophomore album with a new record label as he has signed with Hacienda International Productions.
“I’m excited. I can’t even find the words to express how excited I am,” Rodriguez tells Tejano Nation about signing with the record label. “You know you get that little nervous feeling in your middle and you’re like, ‘Man, what am I doing,’ and then all this excitement just rushes through you, and boom you’re signing. It was great I felt so welcome like I was already part of the family so that made it even easier.”
Rodriguez teamed once again with multiple GRAMMY-winning producer Gilbert Velasquez for the upcoming album and the lead single is a Tejano version of “Siempre, Siempre,” a song originally recorded by Mexican ranchera singer Pedro Infante.
“It’s straightforward Tejano,” said Rodriguez. “This is our first single that’s going to be literally just accordion-based. The instrumentation is of course the bass, Bajo, drums, accordion, and sax. It’s an old Pedro Infante song that we redid and it has a great feel to it.”
“Siempre, Siempre” will be released on March 7 and the new album from Rodriguez is scheduled for release in May.
