Los Boyz of Kumbia has returned with a hot new cumbia produced by A.B. Quintanilla titled “Pelón” featuring former Kumbia All-Starz vocalist Ricky Rick.
Los B-OK lead vocalist Hector Gracia shared details on the latest track from the Ft. Worth-based group, “It basically talks about a persona of the old school style, the ‘Pelón’, how they danced, obviously it’s an upbeat cumbia.”
“Seeing that what we went through with COVID, we feel that the music, the cumbia needs to come back up,” he added. “We decided to change it a little bit from all the romantic stuff that we usually do and bring more of the upbeat cumbia, the danceable music so we decided to launch ‘Pelón’ as the first single.”
Gracia spoke about working with Quintanilla, one of the group’s biggest influences. “There’s that respect that we see in him and we admire him for what he’s done with Selena Y Los Dinos, Kumbia Kings, and Kumbia All-Starz,” he said. “I think that was one of the things that still today holds us together, the respect that we have towards him and how we see him as a producer.”
The cumbia group teamed with the Grammy-winning producer and recorded vocals at the famed Q Productions studios in Corpus Christi, Texas, where late Tejano icon Selena recorded many of her hit songs and albums.
“It was an awesome experience,” said Gracia. “Obviously I was intimidated by everything that the facility of production means when it comes to the hits that Selena did there, everything that A.B. has done there as well, but I felt at home.”
“Pelón” is the lead single from Boyz Of Kumbia from an upcoming album that will be fully produced by Quintanilla. The high-energy danceable cumbia is available on all major digital music platforms.
