HOMESTEAD, FL – (LATINX NEWSWIRE) – On Tuesday, Feb. 16, the Mexican American Council, in partnership with The Foundation for Farmworkers, will provide $150,000 in cash assistance to 150 farmworker families. Each family will receive a $1,000 check and will be distributed from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the MAC Parent Resource Center located at 29344 SW 158th Court #274 in Homestead, Florida.
“We were blessed to receive a large anonymous donation of funds to provide cash assistance to farmworker families on the East Coast of the United States,” said John E. Menditto, President of the Board of The Foundation for Farmworkers. “Our donor asked us to get the funds into the hands of farmworker families as quickly as possible and the Mexican American Council was uniquely positioned to do that.”
The families to receive this cash assistance are provided with direct program services from the Mexican American Council. They include the College and Career Prep, Homestead-Miami Mariachi Conservatory, Family Empowerment Program, and the Adult Literacy Program.
“The cash assistance will help families make rent, keep the lights on, and put food on the table,” said Edward C. Garza, CEO of the Mexican American Council. “Together we are lifting many of our essential farmworker families who have worked nonstop in this pandemic to provide the fruits and vegetables we eat every day.”
To minimize the transmission of COVID-19, the Mexican American Council will have a drive-through distribution of the checks. The funds can be used in the ways that best meet the needs of families.
