The group released a statement on their official Facebook page, “We are excited and pleased to announce that as of Thursday, August 15, 2019, one of the industries most recognized drummers, Joey ‘JMZ’ Jimenez, has joined Masizzo.”
Jimenez left Siggno earlier this year after eight years with the band and six albums with the two-time Grammy-nominated group. When Jimenez announced his departure from Siggno in January, he said he wanted to jam with a few other bands and it turns out a jam session turned into a full-time gig.
“We started playing together it just gelled,” said Jimenez. “I can’t really explain it, it’s just one of those things…I don’t know if it’s just experience or what, it sounded like we’ve been playing together all along.”
“It’s great to have an iconic drummer,” Masizzo accordionist Albert Ramirez told Lopez Broadcasting during an interview on Tuesday. “Not just a drummer, but a musician. I consider him a musician because he doesn’t only bang the drums he actually creates music.”
“All we want to do is make music and please the fans,” added Ramirez.
Masizzo will be working on new material very soon and will be implementing new ideas into all their hits including the latest single “No Digas Que No,” according to the statement.
“At the end of the day for me, more than anything I just want to play with a group of guys that enjoy what they do,” added Jimenez.
