La Tejanita 97.9 brings Conjunto music to San Antonio and South Central Texas

La Tejanita 97.9 has arrived and Conjunto music has a home on the FM dial in south central Texas.

Conjunto music was born in south Texas, now the music can be heard as the new format for La Tejanita 97.9 (KQSA-FM / Batesville, TX) serving south San Antonio and south central Texas.

The station owned by Lopez Broadcasting launched on June 25 playing Conjunto hits, music loved by late legendary broadcaster Humberto Lozano Lopez.

“(He) loved conjunto music all his life and that is why the Lopez family has decided to launch a new conjunto hit station in the San Antonio market,” said a press release.

La Tejanita 97.9 FM will be 100 percent puro Conjunto focusing on all Conjunto bands from the San Antonio market and Texas.

“Any Conjunto group that wants airplay will get airplay period,” said General Manager Manuel “Manny” Lopez.

“We want to have an open door policy as Humberto Lozano Lopez taught us,” said Program Director Jerry Piña.

La Tejanita 97.9 FM currently covers south of San Antonio market communities that include Devine, Lytle, Pearsall, Derby, Dilley, Cotulla, Crystal City, Castroville, Hondo, and Uvalde, the I-35 corridor between Laredo and San Antonio with future upgrades in the near future.

“La Familia Lopez is dedicated to preserving our Conjunto traditions that are a staple in our music families’ hearts for many generations,” said owner Carlos Lopez.

La Tejanita 97.9 has arrived and Conjunto has a home on the FM dial.
