
Isabel Marie Sanchez won Top Female Artist and received a standing ovation for her tribute performance to Laura Canales at the second annual My Tejano Awards in Mission, Texas on May 19.
The My Tejano Awards recognized the past, present and future of Tejano Music at the Mission Event Center with live performances and accolades. The event honored late Tejano icons Laura Canales and Jimmy Gonzalez with “Gone But Not Forgotten” awards.
“Wow!! What a night!! Extremely honored to pay tribute to a Legend Laura Canales,” Isabel Marie said via social media. “Laura Canales helped pave the way for many Female Artist in this industry. I am still emotional as I say this with utmost sincerity and humility, thank you, thank you, thank you for a heartfelt STANDING OVATION!”
The tribute for “La Reina de la Onda Tejana” featured Hall of Famers The Westside Band, who put together the music for the performance, and Oscar Soliz a former member of Canales’ band.
