Conjunto legend Linda Escobar set a release date for her highly-anticipated Tejano album.
The “Conjunto Diva” gave Tejano Nation exclusive details on this upcoming album last November at the 38th annual Tejano Music Awards.
“I’m going to be working on a Tejano album,” she said. “This year, in 2019, Linda Escobar, The Conjunto Diva, is going to record a Tejano album, just for the fun of it! I want people to know that I am versatile, that I can sing English, Country, Tejano, Conjunto…whatever you want, I can sing it.”
Escobar set a release date of May 17, 2019, for this highly-anticipated new album and shared more details in a social media post on April 5.
“This is to let my Conjunto fans know that I am not converting from Conjunto (bajo sexto & accordeon) to Tejano keyboard music,” she said. “Presently, I am recording a Tejano keyboard with accordion music CD because my daughter Glenda, asked me to. I’ve always said that Conjunto & Tejano need to be united as one.”
Escobar has recorded Conjunto music since the age of 7 and added she doesn’t see anything wrong with being versatile.
“Rest assured that I am not abandoning my Conjunto family, I love you all con todo mi corazon and my Conjunto soul,” she said. “My heart and my soul is more in tune with Conjunto, but I love Tejano. I love Tejano music because that’s Conjunto’s baby, you know, and that’s where it all derived from.”
The Conjunto legend is planning her 20th annual El Veterano Conjunto Festival, honoring veterans in memory of her father, Conjunto legend Eligio Escobar, for November 3, 2019. The festival honors all veterans for their service to this country and awards scholarships to young musicians on behalf of the Eligio Escobar Scholarship Fund.
