Castillo told Tejano Nation radio affiliate Q99.5 San Angelo that he plans to start his own record label for the coming year.

“I’m starting my own independent record label,” he said. “I have some artists that I’m working with right now and it’s going to be big for 2019.”

The singer and accordionist wants to help rising Tejano talent grow with his guidance.

“With the record label, I wanted to be an artist that helps other artists,” he said. “Somebody that has been doing it independently right now and thanks to God has had success. I want to help other artists that can achieve the same thing and the goal is to make Tejano music, Conjunto music, Chicano music, Mexicano music, to prosper, to do better than what it is right now and I want to help people right now in the market and help us grow!”

Castillo has released a couple of holiday tracks over the past few years, but is planning a full Christmas album for next year.

“It’s the holidays and I love Christmas music,” he said. “I’m working on a Christmas album that’s going to be released in 2019. So, about the end of November of next year, there’s going to be the full Christmas album. It’s going to be called An Accordion Christmas with AJ Castillo.”

Castillo released a self-titled album in May 2018 that debuted in the top 5 of the iTunes Latin Albums Chart within its first day of release. The disc boasts many hit songs, including “Las Mujeres,” “Esta Noche,” “Actua,” and the collaboration “Obra Maestra” with Jaime DeAnda.
