A Facebook Live video of Beatriz Gonzalez singing a classic mariachi song while enjoying dinner at a San Antonio restaurant has gone viral. When a mariachi band started playing “Los Laureles” the singer began to belt out the lyrics from the song made famous by Linda Ronstadt in 1987.
The San Antonio Express-News reports it wasn’t long after she started singing that Gonzalez’s friend began to capture the interaction on Facebook Live.
“I had my eyes closed, so I didn’t know what was going on, but when I held that first note, I heard everyone clapping,” Gonzalez told the Express-News. “I was like, ‘Well, that was a good reaction.'”
Restaurant patrons urged Gonzalez to sing another song, according to the Express-News, and she ended her performance with Juan Gabriel’s “Se Me Olvido Otra Vez.” The video of her singing has more than 3 million views and 35,000 shares.
Gonzalez, a native of the Rio Grande Valley town of Alamo, was in San Antonio for the Tejano Music Awards, according to the Express-News. She told the newspaper that singing at Mi Tierra had always been on her bucket list.
