The family of Ram Herrera have released an update on the Tejano music legend after he was admitted into a San Antonio hospital for pneumonia and collapsed lung on July 7.

The statement was released after Herrera had surgery on Saturday (July 8).

“Earlier this afternoon Ram had a surgical procedure due to a knee infection. He is still fighting pneumonia and there are some concerns because of low heart enzyme counts. The medical staff taking care of him are very hopeful that he will make a full recovery.

Ram is alert, coherent and has just finished eating. The family apologizes for not being able to respond to every text, phone call and message they’ve received.

“I’m very humbled by the support and prayers of my family, friends & fans. I love you all.” – Ram Herrera

Ram will be in the hospital continuing his road of healing for the next few days. Please continue to pray for Ram and his family. We will continue to update y’all.

Sincerely,

Familia Herrera”

The 57-year-old singer and songwriter, who is not only a staple on the Texas music scene but is considered one of its legends, has received a Tejano Music Award as Male Entertainer of the Year and a Lifetime Achievement Award from The Tejano Music Awards. He began his professional career with David Lee Garza y Los Musicales in 1980.

Tejano Nation will have more details on Herrera’s condition as they become available.
