Elia Esparza, the singer that performed “Como La Flor” from Selena in her blind audition on NBC’s The Voice, was ousted in the battle round on Tuesday night’s episode of the singing competition show.
The singer from El Paso, Texas battled against another Texan, San Antonio singer Ponciano Seoane, with a duet of “Tenerife Sea,” the 2014 hit from Ed Sheeran.
“This felt really natural, so I think you both succeeded,” coach Adam Levine said of the performance. “But I’ve got to say the winner of this battle is Ponciano.”
Esparza had great praise for her singing partner and her experience on the show.
“Extremely grateful for everything, it’s been truly life changing,” Esparza posted on Twitter after the results. “You were an awesome battle partner @ponciano_seoane!! Kill it in the knockouts!! It was incredible being coached by @adamlevine. Head on over and download our song on iTunes!”
This probably won’t be the last you hear from Esparza.
“Thank you for all the support so far and I promise, this isn’t the end, only the beginning,” added Esparza.
