CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Corpus Christi Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) officially unveiled buses honoring Selena Quintanilla Perez during a press conference at RTA headquarters on Monday (April 18).
The new bus wraps, provided by Iconic Sign Group of Corpus Christi, were designed by Chris Dominguez from BOT Graphix with the help of the Quintanilla family.
“It’s an amazing feeling seeing your work in public places,” designer Dominguez posted on Facebook. “I had the honor to design these two new Selena RTA buses at Q Productions together with Suzette Q, for the City of Corpus Christi! They came out awesome!”
Several bus benches also will also feature designs honoring “La Reina de la Onda Tejana”.
“I hope everyone here in our city and all those who are visiting will look at these buses and benches with a smile on their face and a sense of pride knowing Selena was one of their own,” said Suzette Quintanilla Arriaga, Selena’s sister.
The Selena-wrapped buses are expected to remain in the RTA’s fleet until October.
One of the buses will appear in the annual Buc Days Illuminated Night Parade. It will be outfitted with custom LED lighting and play Selena’s top hits. The bus also will promote the second annual Fiesta de la Flor, hosted by the Corpus Christi Convention and Visitors Bureau on May 6 and 7.
