“Working with Lisa Mar was a pleasure, she is an awesome artist who does what it takes to get it done,” Ponce told Tejano Nation. “When I approached her with this project, she dove right in and got to work…studying the song and its history..she did awesome in the studio taking any critisism constructively and making sure everything she did was right.”
“It was an amazing experience to be a part of,” Mar told TejanoNation. “This song is one of my favorites, don’t think I stopped smiling through the entire recording process.”
Ponce was seeking a special voice to be a part of the duet.
“I was looking for a voice to match the old style vocals of Billie Holiday or Etta James or Aretha Franklin,” he said. “I was looking for that sultry catty type voice that the song needs in order to get the story across and that voice was Lisa Mar.”
The Academy Award winning song, written by Frank Loesser in 1944 and originally recorded for the 1949 film Neptune’s Daughter, has been recorded by a number of artists since its original release.
“It’s been covered by so many of the greats so we were so excited to cover this tune,” Mar said. “We wanted to do something special for our fans for the holidays. It was a great experience in the studio alongside some amazingly talented musicians.”
The song was produced by Ponce and recorded at Solo Studio in San Antonio, Texas.
“As an artist I hope to leave the studio having learned something that will impact my career in a positive way,” Mar added. “I believe every experience has an impact on your career and as an artist we evolve and become more colorful through each one. Now I can add some Jazz notes to my rainbow. Happy Holidays to all my family, friends and fans.”
“We hope everyone enjoys it and we look forward to hearing everyone’s comments in the future days to come,” Ponce added.
